Core features
Profile & cosmetics
Your profile page tracks everything you've learned and lets you personalise how you appear to other students. Cosmetics — avatars, card skins, rank labels — are all earned through practice, not purchased separately.
Your profile page (/me)
Every signed-in user has a private profile page at /me. This is where you see your progress, manage your cosmetics, and review your session history — all in one place.
Subject switcher
If you practise more than one subject your stats are tracked independently per subject. A tab row at the top of the profile page lets you switch between them. XP, streak, rank, and mastery charts all update to reflect the selected subject — there is no combined cross-subject total.
This week's stats
A snapshot of your activity since Monday: sessions completed, XP earned, cards reviewed, and accuracy percentage. Useful for a quick gut-check on whether your revision volume is where it should be in the run-up to exams.
Mastery chart
A stacked bar that breaks down every card in your subject into five mastery levels:
- Unseen
- You have never been shown this card.
- Seen
- You have reviewed it at least once.
- Familiar
- You've answered it correctly at least twice.
- Proficient
- Three or more correct reviews and a review interval of at least 7 days — the card is starting to stick.
- Mastered
- Four or more correct reviews and a review interval of at least 14 days — you reliably recall this fact without prompting.
The goal is to push as many cards as possible into Proficient and Mastered before your exam. The spaced-repetition algorithm schedules cards to reappear just before you're likely to forget them, so consistent daily practice is far more effective than last-minute cramming.
Topic mastery
Below the overall mastery chart, a per-topic breakdown shows the same five levels for each topic in your subject. This makes it easy to identify which areas of the specification still have a lot of Unseen or Seen cards — the ones to prioritise next in your practice sessions.
Stats tabs: This week, 30 days, Session history
Analytical content lives in tabs so it doesn't crowd the page. The Session history tab lists every completed session with its date, mode, card count, and accuracy. The 30 days tab gives a longer-range view of your XP trend and session frequency.
Cosmetics section
Avatars and card skins are always visible on the profile page — locked tiers are shown as teasers so you can see what you're working towards. Scroll down to reach them; they are never hidden behind a tab.
Rank system
Every subject has six ranks, driven entirely by the XP you've earned in that subject. Ranks upgrade automatically the moment you cross the next threshold — there is no ceremony required. Your rank label appears in your public profile, next to your name on leaderboards, and on the session done screen when you level up.
| XP | Food | History | Geography | Science | RS | D&T | Business | Drama | PE Theory | CS |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| 0 | Apprentice | Apprentice Scholar | Trainee Explorer | Science Student | Novice | Apprentice | Apprentice | Stage Crew | Rookie | Apprentice |
| 500 | Junior Cook | Scholar | Explorer | Lab Technician | Junior Theologian | Junior Maker | Junior Manager | Understudy | Club Athlete | Junior Coder |
| 1,500 | Cook | Historian | Geographer | Researcher | Theologian | Maker | Entrepreneur | Performer | County Athlete | Coder |
| 4,000 | Sous Chef | Analyst | Field Researcher | Senior Researcher | Senior Theologian | Senior Designer | Senior Manager | Featured Actor | Regional Athlete | Senior Engineer |
| 10,000 | Head Chef | Senior Historian | Senior Geographer | Lead Scientist | Head Theologian | Head Designer | Director | Lead Actor | National Athlete | Lead Engineer |
| 25,000 | Master Chef | Master Historian | Master Geographer | Master Scientist | Master Theologian | Master Designer | CEO | Master Performer | Elite Athlete | Principal Engineer |
Average pace: a student doing two 15-card sessions per day at 75% accuracy earns roughly 2,000 XP per week. At that rate you'd reach Cook (1,500 XP) in under a week and Head Chef (10,000 XP) in about five weeks. A power user putting in an hour a day can hit Master Chef in two to three weeks.
Avatars
Each subject has its own character set. You earn avatar slots as your XP grows — the picker on your profile page shows every avatar in the set, with locked ones greyed out so you can see what's coming. There is no way to pay to skip ahead: every avatar is earned through practice.
Character sets by subject
- Food (GCSE & KS3)
- Chef emoji with full skin-tone and gender variants — twelve combinations in total. Unlocked progressively from 0 XP (default chef) up through the full set.
- History (GCSE & KS3)
- Scholar emoji with the same skin-tone and gender matrix as Food. The same twelve combinations, scholar-themed.
- Geography (GCSE & KS3)
- Climber emoji (🧗) with skin-tone and gender variants — twelve combinations, same pattern as chef and scholar.
- Combined Science (GCSE & KS3)
- Scientist emoji (🧑🔬) with skin-tone and gender variants — twelve combinations.
- Religious Studies (GCSE & KS3)
- Judge emoji (🧑⚖️) with skin-tone and gender variants — twelve combinations. The scales-of-justice framing reflects the RS focus on moral and ethical reasoning.
- Design & Technology (GCSE & KS3)
- Factory worker emoji (🧑🏭) with skin-tone and gender variants — twelve combinations.
- Business Studies (GCSE & KS3)
- Office worker emoji (🧑💼) with skin-tone and gender variants — twelve combinations.
- Drama (Beta)
- Theatre-themed character set.
- PE Theory (Beta)
- Sport-themed character set.
KS3 subjects share the character set of their GCSE counterpart — Food KS3 uses the chef set, History KS3 uses the scholar set, and so on.
Avatar unlock thresholds
Avatars unlock at nine XP milestones: 0, 100, 300, 750, 1,500, 3,500, 7,500, 15,000, and 30,000 XP. Each unlocked slot reveals both a new icon and a short flavour line (for example, "750 XP — You've baked bread that holds together" for Food). The flavour text is subject-specific — a History student at the same threshold sees a historian-themed line instead.
Tip: your selected avatar appears on the class leaderboard, the school leaderboard, and the global/league leaderboards for individual accounts. Picking an avatar you like is worth doing early — it's how other students recognise you on the boards.
Card skins
Card skins change the visual theme of your trading card — the collectible summary card that represents your progress in a subject. They do not affect the appearance of the practice question and answer layout.
Like avatars, skins are unlocked by XP thresholds and stay visible as teasers before you've reached them. Select your active skin from the cosmetics section of your profile page.
Pro subscribers unlock the full cosmetics catalogue — a wider range of card skins and exclusive profile themes. The character rank system, trading card, and base avatar set are all available on the free tier too. See the pricing page for details.
Public profile (/u/[username])
Every user has a shareable public profile at /u/[username]. It shows your chosen display name, your current avatar, your rank, and your subject stats.
Privacy
Your real name is never shown on the public profile or on any leaderboard. Only the display name you chose during onboarding appears publicly. School students are covered by their school's data processing agreement; their profiles are accessible within the school context but do not appear on the global leaderboard.
What appears on the public profile
- Display name (username / alias)
- Current avatar for each active subject
- Rank label and XP for each subject
- Current streak (day count only)
- Total cards mastered per subject
- League tier (individual accounts only)
- Earned event medals — displayed as a collection with event name and date earned
Sharing
Copy the URL from your browser address bar on your profile page to share it. The link is permanent — it doesn't expire and doesn't require the viewer to have an Educator account.
Streak & streak freezes
Your daily streak is the number of consecutive days you've completed your daily goal (a standard practice session). It appears prominently at the top of your profile and on the dashboard.
How the streak works
- Complete any regular session on a given day and the streak increments by one — Standard, Speed Round, Marathon, Mark it, and topic drills all count. Live sessions (teacher-hosted) do not.
- The streak advances once per calendar day (UTC); multiple sessions in one day only increment it once.
- Miss a day without a freeze in reserve and the streak resets to zero.
- The reset happens at midnight UTC.
Streak freezes
A streak freeze is spent automatically on the first day you miss your goal, protecting your streak count. You never have to manually activate a freeze — if one is in your inventory when midnight passes on a missed day, it is consumed and your streak survives.
Earning streak freezes
- Homework completion
- The first time you complete a homework assignment set by your teacher, you earn +1 streak freeze. Subsequent completions of the same assignment do not award another freeze.
- Pro subscription
- Individual Pro subscribers get unlimited streak freezes — you will never lose your streak due to a missed day while your subscription is active. Free individual accounts and school students can only accumulate freezes through homework completion.
School students: your class teacher can set homework that rewards a streak freeze on first completion. Ask your teacher to assign homework on topics you're revising — it's a free freeze for doing work you should be doing anyway.
