How to get the most out of Educator.
What Educator is
Educator is a revision app built around spaced repetition— a proven technique where you practise things just before you're about to forget them. Instead of doing a two-hour cramming session the night before an exam, you do 3–5 minutes every day for weeks. Research consistently shows this builds longer-lasting memory.
Your teacher has set up a class for your subject. Every card in your session is linked to your specific exam board and the topics you've been taught so far.
The basics
🎯 Daily goal
The number of cards you need to complete in a session to keep your streak alive. The default is 15 — your teacher may have set a different target for your class.
🔥 Streak
The number of consecutive days you've completed a regular session. Standard, Speed Round, Marathon, Mark it, Drill weak cards, Topic drills, and Study mode all count. Live sessions do not — you still need a regular session that day to protect your streak. Miss a day and it resets (unless you have a streak freeze).
🛡️ Streak freeze
A one-day protection. If you miss a day while you have a freeze, your streak is protected automatically — no action needed. School students earn freezes by completing homework assignments (+1 per first completion) and at every 7-day streak milestone, capped at 5 held at once. Individual Pro subscribers earn freezes via the same 7-day milestone mechanism.
⭐ XP
10 XP for every correct card. XP unlocks new avatars and cosmetics. It never resets — every correct answer counts.
📈 Mastery
Each card moves from Unseen → Seen → Familiar → Proficient → Mastered as you answer it correctly over time.
🏆 Rank
Your rank label goes up automatically as you earn XP — six levels per subject, each with subject-specific names (e.g. Food goes from Apprentice to Master Chef; History from Apprentice Scholar to Master Historian).
Practice modes
Standard session
Default · 15 cardsYour everyday session. The app picks cards in the smartest order: things you've got wrong recently first, then cards that are due for review, then things you haven't seen yet. Complete it to advance your streak.
Speed Round
15 cards · 8 seconds eachA timer counts down on every card. Run out of time and the card counts as wrong. Great for building the ability to recall under pressure — exactly what happens in an exam.
Marathon
50 cards · ~10 minutesSame smart card-picker as a standard session, just longer. Good for a revision block in the run-up to exams.
Mark it
8 cards · select subjects onlyRead a model answer and decide how many marks it would earn under the mark scheme — you play examiner rather than student. Only appears for subjects that include extended-response cards. Best used once you know the facts and want to practise applying the mark scheme.
Drill weak cards
Only your wrong cardsShows you only the cards you've got wrong recently, and repeats them until you get them right. Use this when you want to fix specific gaps rather than general practice.
Topic drill
One topic at a timeFrom the mode picker, scroll to the topic list and tap any topic name to drill just that topic. Useful when you've just covered something in class and want to lock it in.
Study
30 cards · no right/wrongPrompt and answer shown together — a read-through rather than a test. Earns 1 XP per card (not 10), counts toward your streak, and moves unseen cards to Seen. Launch it from the Learn page. Great for a first pass on a topic you haven't started yet.
Card types you'll see
Recall
Type a short answer in your own words. Accepted answers are flexible — spelling variants count.
Multiple choice (MCQ)
Four options, one correct. Distractors are plausible wrong answers — read carefully.
True / False
Is the statement true or false? Fast and good for clearing up misconceptions.
Fill the blank (Cloze)
A sentence with a word removed. Type the missing word.
Match pairs
Match terms to their definitions. All pairs shown together.
Calculation
A worked numeric question (mainly Business and Science). The formula and working are shown on the card back after you answer.
Evaluate (Mark it)
Read a model answer and judge which mark band it earns. You play examiner, not student. Only available for subjects with Mark It cards.
Tips for getting the most out of it
- Do it daily. Even 5 minutes every day is more effective than one long session per week. Set a reminder on your phone for a time that works.
- Don't skip weak cards. It's tempting to skip the cards you know will come back wrong. Answering them honestly — even incorrectly — is what makes the system work. The app surfaces weak cards more often until you've nailed them.
- Use the Learn page first for new topics. Before practising a topic you haven't covered in class yet, read through the key facts in the Learn section. It gives you the context that makes the cards stick.
- Speed Round the week before an exam. The timed pressure helps simulate exam conditions. Use it in the final week alongside your standard sessions.
- Report a wrong card. If you spot a card that looks incorrect or ambiguous, use the flag option during your session. We review every report.
Found a mistake in a card?
Use the flag button during any practice session to report it. Your teacher and the Educator team will review it. You can also email support@educator-labs.com.
